1. Google Calling: Inside Android, the gPhone SDK
On November 5th, Google executives introduced the Open Handset Alliance (OHA)—a multinational group of 34 companies. The alliance was assembled to build a better mobile phone. A major part of this effort has been the development of the Android platform, described as "the first truly open and comprehensive platform for mobile devices…a fully integrated mobile "software stack" that consists of an operating system, middleware, user-friendly interface and applications."

2. Calculating MW with ANTLR
For years I've heard about ANTLR project. It's a parser generator written in Java which creates parsers for a large number of languages, including C++, Java and Python. Unlike the standard yacc/lex combination, it combines both lexing and parsing rules into the same specification document, and adds tree transformation rules for manipulating the AST.

I thought I'd share a few reflections on our just completed China Foo Camp while they are still
fresh. We organized the event in Beijing in conjunction with IBM and the Institute for the Future. Unlike our US Foo Camps, where we have a rich network of people we already know whom we want to introduce to each other and learn the latest from, here our objective was far more basic -- we were hoping to meet interesting people who already deep into this market in a way that we are not.

Everex's TC2502 gPC is the first mass-market $200 desktop computer, featuring a custom distribution of Ubuntu Linux and headed for selected Wal-Mart stores.
"It's $200, with no gimmicks or subsidies," Everex spokesman David Liu said.
