For super minimal try Oroborus.
I use it for single application logins.
In the .xinitrc file call oroborus in the background and the app in the foreground as the last command.
Login with the app name. Exit the app to return to the XDM login screen.
There used to be some extensions for menus. The code should be still available.

Remember SUnOS?? well when I was an student at the faculty I remember using those SUN SPARC's with SunOS installed!! Ahhhh.. those days in OLVWM!!! Anyone can tell you that that was another experience!!!

I remember MWM too.. but.. where is it!?!? You maybe didn't mention it either because probably you never used an RS6000 with AIX!?!?! FVWM was designed to provide a similar look to MWM.. so.. but the only problem with it is that it's a commercial WM.. nothing that the Lesstif project can't solve..

I'm using Fluxbox.

It like it because everything is easy to use, thanks to the easy to use text files.

There are almost no GUI tools to change settings, but because the code is so easy to read it's a breeze to edit it.

Fluxbox with a nice style, a minimalistic gtk theme and a properly configured menu and keys file is unbeatable in my eyes.

All interesting managers, ive used 3, and tried quite a few of the others on other peoples machines. the one that i see as missing is ION, tab/tile based wm configured for mostly keyboard control, excellent for laptops, where you dont have enough room for a mouse, and touchpads/nipples get in the way.

Great list. I have used some of the window managers mentioned above and most of which are really for power users...mostly not noobie friendly, I think, except for fluxbox. I have to try some of the other WMs listed here though.
