Most Linux Distribution websites have been redesigned to sport a Web 2.0 look. To give credit to their talented web designers/developers, I’ll pick 10 Linux Distribution websites that I think stand out from the rest. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so you don’t have to agree with me. Anyway, you can always comment later on and share your views.

The ubuntustudio website is too dark. It's not very well designed.

However, the rest of the websites are really nice :)

Remember, It's "too dark" for you. You might not be their target audience and that's what design is about. What you want to communicate and who you are talking to.

Nice post. Not a slightly different note, I also like the slackware website, simple, and gets the point across.

Arch is cool too with the forum, wiki, AUR all very nicely integrated.

Well, I find it strange that Ubuntu isn't shown, but understand why. I've run Linux Mint for a good long time and happy to have it shown here.

Strange thing about Sabayon is that I could never download it. Trust me I tried, but at least I'm hitting all those neat Linux Distros. BTW, I'm running openSuSE11.0 right now.

These are some of the most generic "Web 2.0" websites I've ever seen. There's nothign unique or original about any of these designs in terms of functionality or looks that would put them on a top list of anything in my eyes.


Arch and Foresight are probably the only ones that are good from that lot.

I'm not sure that all of the web sites deserve to listed for good design. It feels a little bit like you found a few good ones, but then just added some more that you found to make the list long enough.

I'd love nothing more than to redesign some of the sites on this list to make them more attractive and usable.

In the interest of full disclosure, I was art coordinator for Sabayon once upon a time, but that was a pretty brief stint.

Slackware's site is best designed. It doesnt have all sorts of unnecessary crap on it.

Plus, its not a piece of shit distro like the others listed.

I think I'd take arch off and put Ubuntu there..

I'm starting to think that its best when sites just stick to a certain width.

the UbuntuStudio site is very beautifully done, but is highly lacking in substance. There's just a few pages and any attempt to gather more info from the site just leads you to the Ubuntu forums.

This site should not be on the list. Though it is pretty, it just doesn't have enough there to qualify IMHO.

I think the Dreamlinux site is very slick. Maybe you can do a top ten of the forums as well?

Just because I am a Dreamlinux user and the Dreamlinux forums are very well designed.
