Forget Windows 7, Linux Mint 7 “Gloria” is here

The latest version of probably the most well known Ubuntu-derived distribution has been unleashed. Based on Jaunty Jackalope, Linux Mint 7 (codenamed Gloria) is loaded with exciting new features and the freshest software applications. To give you a sneak peek of this most recent Mint version, here are some of the features that deserve some attention:

Fresh Theme and Artwork
Linux Mint 7 has a brand new theme. The panel and window border colors are now a bit darker but still look pleasing. It is still using the Murrina engine but with various upstream improvements that make widgets and buttons sleeker than before. I should add that its latest default wallpaper really looks great.

mintMenu Enhancements
mintMenu has been improved with a feature called “Suggestions”. Like when filtering gives no results, the menu now shows a set of suggestions related to what is being searched. It will also offer you to install the package directly from the menu so it’s really very handy.

Beefed-up mintInstall
Linux Mint’s very own software manager is now enhanced with a new GUI layout, and features like pre-filled information; seamless screenshots downloads; and featured applications.

Some of the most popular applications were gathered in a new window named "Featured applications". This window shows the popular applications that are available and not currently installed on the system:

The GUI layout was improved. The main window now shows less information and the once called "Versions" button was replaced with "More info".

These are just a few of the many features that you will find on Linux Mint 7. --I’ve been a Mint user and I've dated Cassandra, Daryna, and Elyssa. So at the moment I’m still downloading Gloria and I’m looking forward to test it, and then hopefully share my views about it.

If you want to download Linux Mint 7, go HERE.

  2. This post should be removed, as it propagates sinful and immoral behavior.
God created computers for man to use and to enjoy, and man should use them the way God gave them, and I've never seen - as none of you have - a computer with this Linux Mint inside it, but with Windows only.
I pray that you repent and return to the right path.
    God bless you all!

  3. Blasphemy from Karlo.

Man created computers, and some being created less equal (intellectually that is) they choose to go with the herd mentality, so enjoy your buggy Windows while the free thinkers enjoy open source FREE software.

    My Morning Prayer . . .

    Our Hard Drive
    Which art internal
    Volume C by name;
    Thy code be clean,
    Thy fonts be seen
On screen as they are on paper.
Give us this day our documents,
And lead us not into fragmentation
    But deliver us our data.
    For thine is the SCSI,
And the EISA, and the NuBus,
    Forever and Ever,
    Amen.

  6. Troll? No, I am human, trolls are fairy-tales. You should ask your pastor or priest about this, he will tell you the same things I have.

  8. KI4GSZ, you are clearly making a parody out of something that you shouldn't. So therefore your actions are a blasphemy.
Furthermore, there's no such thing as "free software". All the programs you use have to be paid for. Look around your computer - Windows, Microsoft Office, Nero Burning ROM, PowerDVD... everything is expensive software. If you are copying this software for free (which I suspect all of you are doing), this is a crime and a heavy sin.
Please, repent for your deeds and stop doing this.
I pray for you all. Bye!

anyone who thinks that good software can't be free obviously thinks computers are too complicated to ever try writing software for themselves. if this is the case, they are welcome to pay as much as they like/can for it.

Real Linux users pity Windows users. They know not what they do...

And they usually have no clue what they're talking about.

I'm using Windows 7, and it's like it's not there... it's just in the background letting me get on with OpenOffice, Digsby, Firefox and all the other great freeware/Open Source.

I tried Ubuntu 9.04 and really wasn't happy after spending a month getting the old Epson Scanner going, network printer, Tascam USB Sound Card and various other pieces of hardware that Windows just uses.

The difference is, that when hardware doesn't work plug & play... it's much easier to get working on Windows than Linux, and for that reason Windows will remain on my desktop, as much as I want to use Linux.

  15. Are these comments for real? "Blasphemy, Stealing, propagates sinful and immoral behavior"...Note to all Religious Nuts (YES NUTS)...your church, pastor, minister, etc. have truly warped your ability to make rational comments...Linux is not evil, it does not promote sinning of any kind, it is just an operating system based on an open kernel, with thousands of Open Source software. Most of this software is FREE to use and modify the source code.

This software is developed and improved on by a community of charitable developers who enhance the code on their own free time, not for profit unlike most of the churces you attend and donate 1/3 of you earnings to. Where is the true sin? The developers that donate their spare time to improve a program...or to the church that expexts your donations just to give you a place to go pray...or is it prey.

Linux Rules...seperation of church and computers for Christ's sake!!!

  16. At first I thought Karlo was joking, but after reading his third post I was floored. I hope no one takes to heart what he says and I hope people know not everyone that believes in something higher is that ignorant.

  19. Hans, We Bought our PC's so we can do what we want. Open office is a free version of MS office, you are probably just mad Because you are one of the morons who actually paid for office. Linux is free and legal! So Get used to it!
