I did this recently with a friend's Vista laptop, and was shocked that it recognized all his hardware--even his nonstandard screen geometry. And searching for wireless access points is easy and seamless, too.
I use linux and my favourite theme is leopardish, but i do just fine with the default too
Linux is more than its bells and whistles,besides nowadays its dead easy to get it up n running in no time.
And what's so hard to install those distros ??! Maybe you like to feel l33t if you can install just a simple linux distro like debian,slackware(lawl easiest) or gentoo

(litestep really is usefull for that, because it replaces explorer.exe for its own graphicall shell (not window decorator) i used it under windows 98 to have a run-like menu with tab completion on much used apps)
